Once every century, an alien species of hunters sends out selected progeny to participate in a violent rite of passage, in which they accomplish the transition from adolescents to adult members of society. The ritual includes the pursuit and killing of a second species, specially cultivated for this purpose and which propagates itself in parasitic fashion, that is, with the aid of a host. If they are able to slay the first victim, the successful candidates mark their helmet and their skin with a symbol, utilizing the caustic blood of their prey. This narrative reproduces the plot of the 2004 film version of the comic book "Alien vs. Predator" and its universe, and which lent its name to the first Austrian solo exhibition of the work of Johannes Büttner at KOENIG2 in 2020. The reference to the well-known film franchise was the metaphorical leitmotif of the exhibition, that highlights the confrontation between cultic practice and cultural appropriation in the globalized world of today.
